Commemorating the Morrill Act

The 150th anniversary of a law that changed the mission of the University of Wisconsin and gave rise to the Wisconsin Idea is being marked in 2012. Molly Jahn, a professor and former dean of the College of Agricultural and Life Sciences, and UW student Dantrell Cotton will be participating in a White House event today in honor of the occasion.

H. Edwin Young, ex-campus and system head, dies


Hugh Edwin Young, who served as chancellor of UW–Madison during the tumultuous Vietnam War era, and later as president of the UW System, died on Monday, Jan. 2 in Madison. He was 94.

Law School mourns the loss of Jane Larson

The University of Wisconsin Law School is deeply saddened by the loss of Professor Jane Larson, Voss-Bascom Professor of Law, who passed away unexpectedly from natural causes at her home in Madison in late December.

Legendary geneticist James Crow passes away


The UW-Madison community is mourning the loss of a legend: James F. Crow, professor emeritus of genetics, who passed away Jan. 4, two weeks shy of his 96th birthday.
