The Wisconsin Union Theater is celebrating as it prepares for an intermission — two years of renovation that will enable it to raise the curtain on a new chapter in its rich history. Soil scientist Jaya Iyer dies at 78

Professor emerita Jaya Iyer, instructor and advisor to soil science students for nearly 40 years and a consultant to Midwest tree nurseries, died on May 2 at age 78. Funeral services are scheduled on Saturday, May 12.

The Hawkcam chicks may leave the nest by the end of May, according to Mark Berres, a UW ornithologist. "About 45 days is all it takes for them to fledge — to leave the nest for good," said Berres, who puts the date around June 3.

Ride to Farm seeks cyclists, pledges

Dozens of cyclists will be riding through the rolling hills of rural Dane and Green counties on Saturday, June 2, in support of the next generation of farmers. The university's School for Beginning Dairy and Livestock Farmers is recruiting riders and pledges for its ninth annual Ride to Farm fundraiser.
